In July 2007 there was an amateur staging of a musical called “The Witches of Oz”, which got excellent reviews, especially for a school production. However, it appears that the show was an unauthorized adaptation of a professional stage musical called “Wicked”, and poorly referenced the source material from which it was based on.The Broadway show “Wicked” is based on a novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, which in turn is based on L. Frank Baum’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and the MGM movie musical “The Wizard of Oz”.
Earlier productions by the same school are “Simba, King of the Jungle”, which is based on “The Lion King”, and “We Will Rock You”, which is based on the Queen musical of the same name.
